Jilin turns into an ice and snow world every winter. In order to bring its unique ice and snow resources into full play, the province has developed many winter tourism products featuring ice and snow activities, rime scenery, hot spring, winter fishing and folk customs.

On November 13, a delegation from Jilin promoted the province's winter tourism to people in the warm southern province of Guangdong.

Zhang Jingchun, an official from Jilin Province Tourism Development Commission, and Mao Cheng, deputy head of Guangdong Province Tourism Bureau, spoke at the promotional event.

Zhang Jingchun called for tourism industries of Jilin and Guangdong to expand cooperative channels and areas and learn from each other. He also encouraged travel agencies and scenic areas of the two provinces to join hands to expand market and achieve win-win results.

Guangdong and Jilin are very complementary in tourism resources. The Guangzhou- and Shenzhen-centered Pan-Pearl River Delta region has become an important source of tourists for Jilin. Tourism industries of the two provinces have been tapping the complementarity for a long time.

Winter is the best time to travel to Jilin. Snow and rime scenery is the calling card. Rime is a very representative sight of Jilin. From December through February every year, rime scenery is formed under unique local geological and meteorological conditions. Songhua River and Rime Island in Jilin city, Red Rock Lake in Huadian city, Lushui River in Fusong county, and Changbai Mountain Scenic Area are some of the best places to enjoy rime scenery.

Hot spring bathing in a snow-covered setting is another experience that is not to be missed in Jilin. The province boasts many hot spring wetlands and large geothermal fields. Hot springs in Jilin contain over 30 kinds of mineral substances and microelements that do good to the human body. Temperatures of most hot springs stay at 60 degree centigrade and above.

Jilin has the best ice and snow resources in the world. It is home to one of the three powder snow bases in the world and thus very suitable for developing ice and snow sports.

The province also has firs-rate skiing facilities such as Wanda, Vanke and Beidahu ski resorts. These resorts are all capable of hosting Winter Olympics.

Jilin also boasts excellent tourism services. It is introducing a tourism credibility system to protect the legitimate rights and interests of tourists and encourage scrupulous behaviors by tourism industry professionals.

Last year, Jilin province came up with a document to boost the ice and snow industry, becoming the first Chinese province to do so. According to the document, tourism, physical education and cultural development centering ice and snow will be stimulated, a complete ice and snow industry chain will be formed and diversified industry development will be encouraged. The province aims to become a big and strong player in China’s ice and snow industry and tourism market and a world-class ice and snow tourism destination by 2020.
