The city government of Shigatse, Tibet organized a tourism promotional event in Changchun on January 22.
Wang Shaojun, an official of the Jilin Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and Wang Xiangmin, executive vice mayor of Shigatse, addressed the event.
The event marked Jilin and Shigatse’s latest effort to strengthen their years of exchanges on culture and tourism.
In terms of cultural exchanges, Jilin provincial library has so far donated 10,233 books of 6848 kinds to Shigatse; the provincial cultural center staged a Beautiful Jilin photography exhibition in Shigatse to display over 120 photos on Jilin’s landscape and folk customs; the provincial museum hosted a special exhibition on Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army heroes at Shigatse Museum and the two sides held exchanges on museum building, management and operation.
In terms of cultural professionals training, the provincial library sent three capable staff members to the newly completed Shigatse Library to offer technological guidance; the provincial cultural center worked with Shigatse Mass Art Center to train 53 performers who belong to folk art troupes across Shigatse; the provincial symphony orchestra and the provincial opera house sent three professional performers and staff members to Shigatse Art Troupe to make exchanges and offer training.
Jilin has always attached great attention to helping Tibet develop and the two provincial regions have maintained close contact and a friendly relationship, said Wang Shaojun, stressing Jilin’s frequent exchanges with Shigatse on culture and tourism.
Wang Shaojun urged Jilin’s tourism enterprises, especially travel agencies, to take the promotional event as an opportunity to foray into new market and make full advantage of Jilin and Tibet’s favorable policies and measures to get more Jilin residents to travel to Tibet.
Wang also encouraged the auto culture committee of the Jilin provincial chamber of commerce for cultural enterprises and the self-driving tourism unit of Jilin provincial tourism association to organize self-driving tours in Tibet as a way to promote win-win tourism and cultural exchanges and cooperation.
Shigatse’s tourism industry has been gathering momentum in recent years with its ability to accommodate and offer services to tourists rising remarkably, according to Wang Xiangmin.
The city abounds in tourism and cultural resources with 58 A-rated scenic areas.
“With this promotional event, we want more people to know that Shigatse has more to offer than simply a high altitude. It has both beautiful scenery and a mysterious culture,” said an official with Shigatse’s tourism board.
The Shigatse side staged an impressive singing and dancing performance at the promotional event.
It also launched three tourist routes at the event, which drew a great deal of attention from Jilin’s tourism industry representatives.
A leading travel agency from Tibet signed an agreement for strategic cooperation with Jilin provincial tourism association on the occasion.
“The promotional event is very refreshing with the display of ethnic elements,”said Xu Wei, general manager of a Jilin travel agency.“We will add Shigatse on our list of Tibetan destinations so tourists will have one more choice.”
During the 17th Mount Qomolangma Cultural Festival this year, Shigatse and Changchun will both organize two activities to promote two-way tourism, said Zhu Hong, an official with the Jilin Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism.
