Rural tourism emerged in Changchun City around 2000, when farmers living in the surburbs established a number of “Happy Farmhouse” tourist spots featuring local folk customs. These tourist spots developed rapidly with the guidance and assistance from the government. Since 2005, efforts have been made to select demonstrative “Happy Farmhouses”. The number of “Happy Farmhouse” tourist spots has increased to 300 and 30 of them are certified to be municipal-level tourism spots.
