China.org.cn
Shuangyang Yuantong Temple, situated in the North Hill Park Scenic Area in Shuangyang District, was built on the ruins from the Neolithic Age of the primitive society. It lies halfway along the southern slope of the North Hill on the site where Lingyan Pavilion was. Facing south, the temple was first built in 1908, covering over 5000 square meters in area with 2000 square meters in floorage.
The temple consists mainly of a gate, bell and drum towers, the Tianzheng Hall, the Main Hall, western and eastern side halls, and a depositary of Buddhist sutras. Adopting concrete frameworks, the main buildings are distributed on a south-north axis. The temple houses the largest wooden Buddhist statue in Northeast China.
