Farmer Paintings Town
- China.org.cn, October 25, 2016
Dongfeng farmers’ paintings originate in early 1970s. Such paintings adopt Chinese painting traditions, focus on folk customs of northeast China, and depict the real life.
Plain images, bright colors, skillful composition, and a serious and harmonious tone have resulted in a style characteristic of the black soil culture of northeast China, perfectly blending past and present painting traditions.
In 1988 and 2008, Dongfeng County was named “China’s Modern Folk Painting Town” and “China’s Folk Art Town” by the Chinese Ministry of Culture.
More than 1,500 works of Dongfeng farmers’ paintings were published in major newspapers and magazines in China, more than 230 won national-level awards, over 400 were collected by the United Nations and well-known galleries in the world, 460 were collected by the National Art Museum of China and other famous Chinese museums, and over 6,000 were bought by foreigners for high prices.
