China’s Folk Art (Cross-dancing) Town

A small cross-dancing troupe for amateur farmer performers was established in 1984 in Weijin Town, Dongliao County, Liaoyuan City. The troupe staged performances in and outside northeast China and many of its performers have become famous. Their shows were reported by national and provincial news media many times, and more than one hundred CD albums of their shows are available in the market. Liaoyuan was named “Cross-dancing Town” by the Jilin provincial government and “China’s Folk Art Town” by the Chinese Ministry of Culture in 2003.
