Baishan City is situated in the heartland of Changbai Mountain, one of China’s top 10 famous mountains, in southeast Jilin Province. About 160 kilometers away from Changbai Mountain, the city is the closest and largest prefecture-level city to the scenic area and therefore dubbed as “the first city in Changbai Mountain.”

Besides, Baishan faces the Democratic People's Republic of Korea across the Yalu River with a borderline of 458.1 kilometers.

The city governs Hunjiang District, Jiangyuan District, Linjiang City, Changbai Korean Autonomous County, Fusong County and Jingyu County with a combined area of 17,485 square kilometers.

It is home to 1.329 million people who come from 37 ethnic groups including Han, Korean, Manchu, Hui and Mongolian.

The city has 23 star hotels and 47 travel agencies, among which one operates outbound tours and 6 border tours, by 2013.
