Tianchi Lake

Tianchi Lake is located on the top of the volcanic cone on the main peak of the Changbai Mountain. Slightly oval in shape, it is a caldera lake formed naturally after a volcano eruption. It is 4,400 meters long from south to north and 3,370 meters wide from east to west. The perimeter of the water surface is 13.17 km. The lake surface is 2,189.7 meters in altitude. The deepest spot of the lake is 373 meters, and the average depth is 204 meters. The water surface is 9.82 square km in area. The water storage of the lake is 2.04 billion cubic meters. It is the lake highest in altitude, deepest in water and biggest in area in the world. It is a border lake between China and the North Korea, and is surrounded by 16 peaks.
