Erlong Lake
- China.org.cn
Known as a national AA-level scenic area, Erlong Lake is located in the east of Siping, within the East Liaohe River Basin. Erlong means two dragons and the lake is so named because two dragon-like mountains lie along the lake.
Encompassing a water area of 170 square kilometers and storing 1.762 billion cubic meters water, Erlong Lake is reputed as the largest provincial-level reservoir and the third-largest artificial lake in Jilin Province. The major dam is 410 meters in length and 31 meters in height, while the auxiliary dam is 90 meters in length and 10 meters in height. On the spillway pier between the two dams engraved three Chinese characters “Er Long Hu”(meaning Erlong Lake), written by former Secretary of Jilin Provincial Committee of CPC, Wu De on October 7, 1962.
Combining the functions of electric power generation, fish farming, and sightseeing, Erlong Lake mainly plays a role in flood control and irrigation.
