Changbai Mountain Karst Cave Maze
- China.org.cn
The Changbai Mountain Karst Cave Maze is located in Hengdao Village, Liudaojiang Town in southwest Hunjiang District. The two floors of the maze are linked with each other. Paths inside winded through among caves that contain each other in a rather pleasantly confusing way.
However, the Karst landform insde the caves are well developed. Stalagmites, stone waterfalls, stone columns and stone storms take the form of lifelike animals and human figures as well as buildings. The maze was a semi-underground karst attraction formed 600 million years ago by water eroding limestones. The maze is warm in winter and cool in summer rendering a unique picture comprising karst hollows, walls, gullies and groves, stalactites, stalagmites, stone columns, stone waterfalls and stone storms. Without a guide, you will find it rather difficult to return over the same route, because all caves are interwoven in staggered way and seem to run along endlessly. There is also a hidden river under the caves, giving audible trickling.
