Dongfeng County lies in south-centeral Jinlin Province, belonging to south part of Hada Mountains, a branch of Changbai Mountains. It covers an area of 2521.5 square kilometers and has a total population of 408,000. Surrounded by mountains, rolling hills and criss-crossing riverswith a exceptionally favorable geographical location and natural conditions, Dongfeng county has long been a habitat for ild spotted deer. Dongfeng has a long history of deer breeding.

According to the“Comprehensive Studies of Qing Documents,” the Shengjing Paddock was established in Dongfeng in the Qing Dynasty and was guarded by government officials.According to Cihai, Dongfeng, famous for deer antlers, contains the early deer farms of the country. Artificial deer breeding came about in the county over 200 years ago. The Brand of Maji deer antlers is famous both at home and abroad. The well-known patriotic Chinese general Zhang Xueliang,who lived wrote an inscription of “China’s Spotted Deer Town” in 1995, expressing his deep attachment to his hometown. In April 2004, the town was officially designated as “China’s Spotted Deer Town” by the Specialty Branch of Chinese Association of Agricultural Science.
