Jilin has been innovating its tourism resources to forge a new tourism business mode, one that integrates red tourism and lush sceneries, with the aim to carry on the legacy of the War of Chinese People’s Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

On Sept17, the local tourism and education authorities launched a red tourism program for college students of Jilin that centers the history of the Northeast United Resistance Army, which operated in northeast China almost throughout the14-year duration of the War from 1931 to 1945, and engaged with the most elite Japanese intruding forces, hindering them from heading south.

The next day, which is the date of the War’s start in 1931, 500 students from 37 higher education institutes in the province set out for a four-day trip to Tonghua, Jingyu, Linjiang and Huadian for the sites that commemorate the Army’s heroic efforts to fight the Japanese aggressors while enduring extreme hardships and lack of supplies and supports.

Du Wenhao, from Changchun University of Technology, said that“the spirit of unswerving and resolute fight of the fallen heroes will guide us through our lives”.

Gao Fangze, from Changchun Normal University, said that they should carry on the proud tradition and“weave their young dreams into the much greater Chinese Dream for the rejuvenation of the nation”.

Jilin has also played important roles in the War of Liberation (1945-1949) and the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-1953), which left the province an extensive list of red tourism sites.

The province plans to take advantage of these resources to build its red tourism brand as a vehicle for public education and a way to poverty relief in certain areas. And Yang Jingyu (1905-1940), the main leader of the Northeast United Resistance Army, will be at the center of the red tourism development plan of Jilin.

To ensure the success of the plan, Jilin established a red tourism development alliance. Its foundation was pronounced on Sept 17, with a multitude of provincial government agencies involved in its foundation.
