Jilin Provincial Tourism Development Commission called a meeting on October 23 to learn the guiding principles of the report delivered by General Secretary Xi Jinping at the opening of the 19th CPC National Congress.

Yang Andi, director of the commission, urged participants of the meeting to use the thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era as a guide to promote the healthy development of Jilin’s tourism industry.

Participants agreed that the new ideas and measures put forth in the report will be a guide to action and offer strategic guidance in promoting tourism development.

The report said:“As socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era, the principal contradiction facing Chinese society has evolved. What we now face is the contradiction between unbalanced and inadequate development and the people’s ever-growing needs for a better life.”

Participants said the change in principal contradiction brings tremendous opportunities and sets higher requirements for the development of the tourism industry and the industry will have bright prospects in the new era.

Tourism, as one of the five Happiness Industries, is also one of Jilin’s emerging pillar industries of strategic importance. It is of great significance in promoting economic transformation, boosting employment and entrepreneurship, advancing Jilin’s development and raising the happiness index of local people.
