Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum opened on July 12 an exhibition on master painter Zhang Daqian's works created during China's war of resistance against Japanese aggression in the 1930s and 1940s.

A total 84 paintings were on show, with 21 from Jilin Provincial Museum, 31 from Sichuan Museum and 32 from Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum.

It marked the first time Zhang's works created during the above-mentioned period were exhibited collectively.

While demonstrating Zhang's artistic talent, the exhibition also showed his strong sense of patriotism.

The exhibition was divided into three parts: landscape painting, figure painting, and bird-and-flower painting.

To give people a better idea of Zhang's creation, the seal he used and the album he published during the period also went on show.

Zhang is considered a genius of the 20th century's art. He is well versed in both "gongbi" and "xieyi" and masters not only landscape and figure painting but also flower-and-bird painting.

Besides, he is an accomplished calligrapher, seal cutter, and connoisseur and collector.

2019 marks the 120th birthday anniversary of Zhang Daqian.
