2019 Northeast Asia (China·Yanbian) Culture, Tourism and Food Week kicks off

The 2019 Northeast Asia (China·Yanbian) Culture, Tourism and Food Week kicked off in Hunchun city on September 3.

Bayanqolu, secretary of the CPC Jilin Provincial Committee, announced the opening of the Week at the opening ceremony.

Jiang Zhiying, secretary of the CPC Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture Committee, delivered welcoming remarks at the opening ceremony.

Vanessa Satur, Program Coordinator, Technical Cooperation, the United Nations World Tourism Organization, attended the opening ceremony.

The senior advisor to the secretariat of the UNDP-supported Greater Tumen Initiative addressed the opening ceremony.

Jin Shouhao, head of the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, presided over the opening ceremony.

Jiang Zhiying noted that Yanbian, which is located on China's border with Russia and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, is the only Korean autonomous prefecture in China, and it boasts a beautiful natural ecology, a rich endowment of natural resources, a unique geographical position and a diversified ethnic culture.

The Week, which used food as an vehicle for achieving inter-civilization exchanges and mutual learning, was not only a grand gathering for promoting integrated tourism but also an important platform for cultural and tourism exchanges and cooperation among Northeast Asian countries, said Jiang, calling on tourism businesses and investors from both home and abroad to help Yanbian develop tourism by expanding the areas and scale of cooperation and enhancing the level of cooperation in order to achieve mutually beneficial development.

The Yanbian Song and Dance Troupe and art troupes from other northeast Asian countries staged colorful performances at the opening ceremony.


The Week was sponsored by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Jilin Province and the government of Yanbian prefecture and ran from September 3 to 8.

During the Week, a series of activities took place, including the Greater Tumen Initiative- the Eighth Northeast Asia Culture and Tourism Forum, the“Charming China” show, performances of intangible cultural heritages, Yanbian food exhibition, food exhibition of China's minority ethnic groups, food exhibition of northeast Asian countries, launch ceremony of Global Artist League's Northeast China International Ethnic Art Academy and tours around Yanbian by online celebrities.

Also attending the opening ceremony were Zhang Anshun, member of the standing committee of the CPC Jilin Provincial Committee, Xue Kang, vice chairman of the CPPCC Jilin Provincial Committee, An Guiwu, director of the Jilin Development and Reform Commission, Chen Zheng, counsel of international exchanges and cooperation of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Zhang Baozong, secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Jilin Province, and Bing Zheng, executive vice president of Jilin University, as well as representatives of the member countries of the Greater Tumen Initiative, representatives of five northeast Asian countries, representatives of some of China's minority ethnic groups, representatives of famous Chinese and foreign tourism businesses, representatives of the city governments of Jilin and representatives of Yanbian's sister cities.
