Experts of Jilin Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism study Xincheng Opera in Songyuan

Experts from the art division of the Jilin Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and experts from the Jilin Provincial Academy of Arts went to the Manchu Xincheng Opera Inheritance and Protection Center in Songyuan city on November 6 to study the performances that had been shortlisted for staging at the Ninth Song-and-dance Duet and Comic Skit Art Festival of Jilin.

The Manchu Xincheng Opera Inheritance and Protection Center is the only Manchu opera troupe in China. Xincheng Opera is the only Manchu opera in China and an original local opera of Songyuan city.

Widely popular with its unique charm, Xincheng Opera is praised by experts and scholars as the "Yue Opera of Northeast China".

The four shortlisted performances of the center all have a realistic theme, two on the aging population problem, one on dedication to work, and one on parenting.

After the study, experts held discussions with officials of the center and the cast on how to make further improvement to the performances before they are staged at the festival.
