Artists from 6 NE Asian countries to co-create 100-meter-long Ice and Snow Silk Road-themed painting

Sponsored by the Jilin Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, a ceremony marking the start of a co-creation of a hundred-meter-long Ice and Snow Silk Road-themed painting by more than ten painters from six northeastern Asian countries - China, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mongolia and Russia – was held at Jilin Provincial Library on September 15.

A symposium to study the creation of the painting was held simultaneously.  

Chinese painters Zhao Mingren, Qin Yongzhe and Liu Chongyun started their share of the work first, which will be based on the memories, stories and legends related to the Ice and Snow Silk Road in northeast Asia.

Yang Andi, director general of the Jilin Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, Zhao Mingren, one of the main painters for the project, and Liu Xinjun, a professor from Jilin University, addressed the ceremony.  

Cao Baoming, vice president of the Jilin Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles, famous cultural scholar and folklore expert, sent a congratulatory letter to the ceremony together with the painters from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mongolia and Russia.

Yang also presented letters of commission to the panel of historical and cultural experts and the panel of painters for the project.

Zhao, also president of the Jilin Provincial Ice and Snow Painting and Calligraphy Institute, said on the occasion that the Ice and Snow Silk Road has both great practical importance and far-reaching historical significance and the painters will work together with historians and folklore experts to do the job well.  

After completion, the group painting will be exhibited in the six northeastern Asian countries. Farmer painting, fish skill painting, bark painting, feather painting, black pottery, Songhua Lake stone, Changbai jade, and hand knitting from Jilin will be exhibited along with the group painting to promote foreign trade and Jilin's development.
