Jilin Provincial Library sets up Board of Directors

The Jilin Provincial Library set up its first Board of Directors in a meeting on December 14, making a solid step forward in the reform of the library's corporate governance structure.
Zhang Shubin, secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group of the Jilin Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, attended the meeting and awarded letters of appointment to the board members.
Zhang Chenyuan, member of the Leading Party Members' Group of the Jilin Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and deputy head of the department, presided over the meeting.
Zhang Shubin required in his remarks at the meeting that public libraries should fully recognize the great significance of the reform of the corporate governance structure and well leverage the the function and role of the board of directors.
He also urged those piloting the reform to do a good job in fulfilling their targets and tasks and form experiences that can be copied and promoted among other public libraries.
The reform of the corporate governance structure should be an opportunity to apply new development philosophies, to pursue innovation, and more importantly, to improve work on all fronts to better respond to the needs of the society, the public and the development of relevant causes in accordance with the people-first approach, he said.
The first Board of Directors of the Jilin Provincial Library consists of 13 directors and 3 supervisors. Cao Baoming, president of the Jilin Provincial Folk Literature and Art Association, will head the Board of Directors, and Wu Hui, secretary of the Party general branch of the Jilin Provincial Cultural Relics and Archeological Research Institute, will be the head of supervisors.
Board members are either from government agencies and the management of the library or experts, scholars and staff members of the library. With three fifths of the members coming from outside of the library, the board will help improve the supervision and evaluation mechanism and get more non-governmental resources.
Cao Baoming and Zhao Ruijun, curator of the Jilin Provincial Library, pledged at the meeting that they would jointly endeavor to take the development of the library to a new level and make sure the reform of the corporate governance structure deliver tangible results.
