Organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, an activity of livestreaming Chinese lunar new year celebrations was launched on Jan. 20, or the eighth day of the twelfth month in the lunar calendar.

As part of this livestreaming activity, folklore activities that comply with local regulations on epidemic prevention and control can be documented with short videos or be livestreamed, with the footages uploaded to various participating platforms for display. Internet users are encouraged to participate and share thoughts.

Platforms such as Kuaishou, Douyin, Weibo and Kugou have participated in the activity, which will run through the Spring Festival and Lantern Festival period.

This activity is important, because it demonstrates rich and unique intangible cultural heritage of China, allows overseas Chinese and those who will be celebrating the lunar new year where they live now to experience the holidays online, and shows how the Chinese people combat the epidemic and enjoy the strong festive atmosphere.
