To promote reading and build a happy Jilin, Jilin launched the 2021 book reading season at the Jilin Provincial Library on April 23, the 26th World Book Day.
The book reading season was sponsored by the Publicity Department of the CPC Jilin Provincial Committee with support from the Jilin Provincial Department of Education and Jilin Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and organized by the Jilin Provincial Library.
At the launching ceremony, a promotional video for the event was played, reviewing the development of the book reading season in Jilin over the past years and presenting footages of wonderful moments of the general public enjoying book reading in the province.
The choir of the Provincial Second Experimental School sang the song "Scent of Books" at the launching ceremony to echo the theme of the event.
Ambassadors for the book reading season jointly announced the key activities for this year's event, calling on the whole society to embrace reading as a hobby and a healthy way of life and read more good books.
The sponsor donated books to schools to meet the reading needs of special groups such as poor students at the launching ceremony. It also awarded medals to advanced units serving farmers and grassroots cultural construction, and handed flags to teams providing cultural services for the book reading season.
Then a flash mob pushed the atmosphere of the launching ceremony to a climax.
Another highlight of the launching ceremony was the fourth book exchange fair of the Jilin Provincial Library, which was taken part in by a number of the public libraries, to encourage the public to exchange books and make friends in the process.
The 2021 event will run through July 22. Over 1,000 activities will be held at the provincial, city and county levels, including ones that promote reading in rural areas, parent-children joint reading and family reading.
