Jilin rings in new year with ice and snow activities and cultural performances

Jilin rang in the new year of 2022 with colorful ice and snow activities and cultural performances presented during the just concluded New Year holiday.  

Ice and snow activities included ice lantern shows, snow sculpture exhibitions, and skiing activities.

From December 31 to January 3, the "Tianmao Ice and Snow Festival" New Year Grand Gala, as part of the 6th Jilin International Ice and Snow Industry Expo, was held at the Vanke Songhua Lake Resort in Jilin city. 17 activities of 5 themes were launched, featuring immersive experiences. Such activities as night skiing, snowfield disco, and New Year party attracted many skiers. A New Year skiing competition, fireworks show and marathon were also among the fancy activities on offer.

At the Changbai Mountain Luneng International Resort, a grand New Year party was held, attended by tourists from around China.

Wang Yunan, a tourist from Hebei, said, "I am very happy to have a New Year dinner with red lanterns hung around and watch a song-and-dance duet performance. I look forward to the skiing activity tomorrow very much."

On the evening of December 31, a Douyin-based city promotion program came to Changchun in the form of a concert, displaying the charm of Changchun city to Douyin users.

To ensure a happy, steady and safe holiday, all scenic areas in Jilin made advance plans to guarantee services and ensure effectivce pandemic prevention and control during the holiday.

The Jilin Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism issued a notice on work arrangement for the New Year and Spring Festival holidays in advance. It also sent inspection teams to different localities to ensure safety and pandemic prevention measures were in place.

Zhang Chenyuan, deputy head of the Jilin Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, urged all cultural and tourism administrative agencies to take effective pandemic prevention measures while meeting the cultural needs of local residents to ensure a happy, healthy and safe holiday.

At the Liuding Mountain scenic area, which many tourists chose as the first stop of their new year travels, for example, pandemic prevention facilitates were installed at the entrance and all tourists were required to wear masks, have their health and trip codes checked and have their temperatures measured.

The scenic area also asked tourists to make real-name appointment and set an upper limit on the daily number of tourists. At the same time, regular disinfection and ventilation was carried out to main scenic spots, the service center, sightseeing vehicles and public toilets.

In terms of cultural performance, during the New Year holiday, 4 performances were staged offline, watched by 1,200 people, and 8 online, receiving over 1.8 million views.

The performances staged by the Jilin Provincial Traditional Opera Theatre and other provincial cultural troupes covered various subjects and were well received by the audience.

A local resident of Changchun surnamed Yu watched a performance by the Peking Opera unit of the Jilin Provincial Traditional Opera Theatre. He said, "This year's program is diverse in subjects and the performance is excellent, not only creating a festive atmosphere but also enriching my cultural life."

During the 2022 Spring Festival holiday, Jilin's provincial cultural troupes will also stage a wide range of performances, including symphony performance, Peking Opera performance and song-and-dance duet performance.
